NYISO APPROVES BESICORP-EMPIRE ELECTRIC INTERCONNECTION
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE KINGSTON, NEW YORK - Besicorp-Empire Development Company, LLC (the "Company") received approval of its System Reliability Impact Study ("SRIS") for the electric interconnection of the project the Company plans to construct in the City of Rensselaer, New York. Approval of the SRIS was received from the Operating Committee ("OC") of the New York Independent System Operator ("NYISO") upon recommendations from the Transmission Planning Advisory Subcommittee ("TPAS") and NYISO technical staff. The approved study shows that all of the electricity generated by the project can be transmitted either south towards New York City and/or east to New England. It is also anticipated that a significant portion of the electricity may be used locally. The NYISO manages and operates the bulk power system for the State of New York. The OC is made up of each Party to the NYISO Agreement, representing the five Sector Groups (Generation Owners, Other Suppliers, Transmission Owners, End Use Consumers, Public Power/Environmental Parties). TPAS has been established by the OC to provide technical review, guidance and recommendations to the OC with regard to transmission planning matters. The Company is developing a cogeneration power facility integrated with a recycled newsprint manufacturing facility. The power facility will produce approximately 500 megawatts of electricity for the merchant power market. The newsprint facility will produce over 300,000 metric tons of 100% recycled newsprint each year. William T. Seils, President, stated, "I am pleased that we continue to achieve the milestones that will lead us to the successful completion of our project in Rensselaer. Our continued involvement with the community and local officials has enabled us to assure success of this environmentally-sound and economically beneficial project." Besicorp-Empire Development Company, LLC is a joint venture between Besicorp Development and Empire State Newsprint, LLC. Besicorp Development specializes in the development of environmentally-sound independent power projects.
